Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices on Oral Health among Beneficiaries under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in Tarlac City

The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) is a conditional cash transfer program in the Philippines that aims to invest on the education and health of the marginalized sector. To receive cash grants, one of the conditions is the attendance of at least one responsible member of the household in the family development session (FDS), a monthly gathering aimed at educating beneficiaries on topics on health and family life and development. Although education on oral health is important on the general health and well-being of 4Ps beneficiaries, oral health is not routinely taught to the beneficiaries during FDS. The aim of the study is to determine the knowledge, attitudes, and practices on oral health of the 4Ps beneficiaries. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted among 18 to 59-year-old Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries of Tarlac City attending the online family development sessions (FDS). Data on oral health knowledge, attitudes, and practices were obtained through an online survey using Google Forms. Participants accessed the online survey through the link posted in their Facebook Messenger group chat where the online FDS is conducted. Results of the study may be used as an input to design the contents of oral health promotion materials and the inclusion of preventive oral health programs for the 4Ps beneficiaries.

To the best of knowledge of the researcher, there is no data available on the knowledge, attitudes, and practices on oral health of beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

The level of oral health knowledge, attitudes, and practices of the 4Ps beneficiaries were determined through a KAP survey. Bloom’s cut-off points, 80%-100%, 60%-79%, and ≤59%, were used to categorized the score results for knowledge (Good, Fair, Poor), attitudes (Positive, Neutral, Negative), and practices (Adequate, Fair, Inadequate).
