Burden of Alzheimer’s Disease among Community Dwelling Filipino Community

The WHO has estimated dementia as the 11th leading cause of years lived with disability and considers it as a public health priority. The prevalence of dementia in the Philippines is expected to increase to 1,159,000 in 2050. In Asia the figure is projected from 13.7M in 2005 to 64.6M in 2050. This health epidemic poses several challenges for people and government.  Thus study will determine burden of Alzheimer’s disease among community dwelling Filipino elderly. It will also determine incidence rate of Alzheimer’s disease in Filipino elderly, as well as to know the cost of care, disability adjusted life years (DALY) for AD elderly and quantify the burden of premature mortality and disability by sex using DALY metric.
