An outbreak of malaria in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

An outbreak of malaria in Sta. Rosa, Laguna was recognized and subsequently controlled through the joint efforts of three agencies of the Department of Health in July, 1988. Morbidity rates decreased from 52.8 to 6.2 after prompt intervention measures were instituted. Parasitological and entomological surveys, indicated the preponderance of falciparum malaria, higher infection rates among adolescents and adults especially males, the occurence of parasite resistance to the 4-aminoquinolines, notably amodiaquine, the presence of anopheles flavirostris and the necessity for continued surveillance in the context of primary health care
